EDITORIAL: IS MONEY HAPPINESS?

Hope Clayton, Staff Writer

Here is a question that has been asked for a while now, does wealth contribute to someone’s happiness? Personally, I feel like both yes and no are appropriate answers depending on how you look at the question. Someone who makes a lot of money must be pretty successful at their job. Being successful can give the said person a sense of accomplishment, which also results to a sense of happiness. Everyone thrives to be successful at something because, in all reality, we all want to feel this sense of accomplishment. No one wants to feel like a failure. Failure often leads to sadness and frustration, much like how being successful can lead to happiness. Materialistic objects such as fancy cars or a big house do not result in happiness forever, but once again they do contribute to a sense of accomplishment. So even though the happiness may not be long term, I would consider it to be short term happiness.

Having a house, car, etc. are all important things in today’s world; there is no denying that. However, the things that really truly matter are the people you surround yourself with. The key to long term happiness is having friends and family who support you no matter what. When you have people in your life who love you for being yourself, they can bring all sorts of happiness into your life. These are the kind of people who you will make amazing memories with. They will help you become the best version of yourself possible. Once you have found these people, you will really know what it is like to be happy. True happiness is so much more than a feeling; it is a lifestyle.
