EDITORIAL: IN WITH THE OLD, OUT WITH THE NEW

Makaela Patten, Staff Writer

Usually the saying goes “Out with the old, in with the new,” but that hasn’t exactly been the case lately. Recently, older trends from the 80’s and 90’s have been making a huge comeback, more so with the younger generation. Some of the fashion items coming back include tattoo chokers, Chucks, Doc Martens, Jelly Sandals, skater dresses, leather biker jackets, scrunchies, flannels, and many, many more. These fashion trends are very popular right now; it’s almost like they never left, and I’m not mad about it. To me, 90’s fashion is awesome, and I’m glad the trends never fully disappeared! Since I wasn’t born yet when these trends were introduced, I am experiencing them for the first time. I wore my fair share of Chucks, chokers, and flannels in middle school; now that I’m past that ‘phase’ I still appreciate 90’s fashion pieces and know many people who pull them off. Some 80-90’s items that have/are making comebacks include: Tamagotchis, Record Players, Polaroid Cameras, Pokémon, Nintendo consoles, and a plethora of more.  I do take part in the recent comeback of Polaroid’s and Records, owning both myself. I have an older One-Step Polaroid, and a brand-new version that a lot of people have now. I also have a record player with over 40 LPs from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. I just recently started collecting LPs, and I really enjoy listening to them. I also really like Polaroids because of the instant pictures. I always take photos on my regular cameras and forget to have the printed, so they end up living in an SD card for many, many years. All in all, I am really grateful that I get to experience these things my mom did when she was around my age, which I find super cool for the comeback of these throwback things.
