As students, we need to study a lot, and by “a lot” I mean “we must waste an exceptional amount of our free time doing something we don’t like for a grade that our parents probably care more about than us.” Sounds horrifying enough. None of us really enjoy studying, and hats off to the few people who do because they are having a much easier time in school than the rest of us; so for those of us who don’t really enjoy doing this task, there are several different ways to study that you can try out to determine if any of them make it easier and/or more enjoyable for you.
The first suggestion I have is making flashcards with bits and pieces of information on each side and using them to recall information. This method is great for things such as vocabulary words, definitions, or anything where you just have to recall a fact when given a cue. The next suggestion is repetition, repetition, and repetition. For this you just have to read or say aloud the facts or information that you need to know in order to get them stuck into that brain of yours; this is very similar to how you can memorize songs with ease, except it’s not as entertaining. The third suggestion I have for you requires a partner. You simply have the other person ask you questions about the material so you can get used to the knowledge and have a better chance of knowing the information when asked about it. The last suggestion I have is a last resort as I have never known it to work for me, but it may work for you; just take the information you need in your textbook and read over it. This isn’t as effective, but everyone is different in how they learn.
So next time you are having trouble studying, try a new tactic, it might just save your grade.
