Mr. Peace, Advisor
Mr. Peace is in his ninth year of teaching, though he can't quite believe it's been that long, and in his sixth year of teaching Journalism. Having spent the past three years of his life traversing the grad school gauntlet and finally graduating last May with a Master's degree in English Literature, Mr. Peace has spent his newfound focus and energy over the last year on teaching and revamping The General Journal, as well as Heritage's yearbook, The Legacy. With the help of newspaper editor Natalie Ferry and yearbook co-editors Allie Boyd and Briley Simpson, Mr. Peace hopes to not only create the most aesthetically striking edition of the yearbook so far but to also make The General Journal a one-stop resource for all things Heritage. In addition to teaching Journalism, Mr. Peace also teaches Honors & CP British Lit. and is now teaching Dramatic Writing for Film & Television for the first time. He hopes to create better readers, writers, and thinkers, but above all he hopes to create a welcoming and uplifting community in his classroom, one devoted to exploring fundamental questions about life. Outside of work, Mr. Peace can often be found reading at a coffee shop, listening to music on a run through Gilbert-Stephenson Park, mowing his yard, playing with his cat, Mitski, or sitting on his front porch--with a book in one hand and a Polar seltzer in the other, of course. About once a month, he can be found in the fanciest venues of Atlanta or Nashville, in the basement of Sluggo's, or just at some person's house, watching live music of all kinds. Mr. Peace's favorite musical artists at the moment are Big Thief, Pavement, Alvvays, MJ Lenderman, and Quelle Chris. All in all, Mr. Peace is excited about the 22-23 school year, despite what obstacles it may bring, and aims for this to be his best year as a teacher yet.
