Uptown Girl: Introducing Brooklynn Henson

Tru Johnson, Staff Writer

As Brooklynn Henson, a city girl all the way from Las Vegas, moved down to the South, she realized things aren’t the same. Henson grew up in Las Vegas until she was 14, when she moved down to Georgia. She is very into the city, and while she doesn’t plan to move back to Las Vegas, or anywhere on the west coast,  she would love to go somewhere like New York City. When moving to the south, she missed the views of the mountains in Nevada. Henson said, “It’s a lot different here than it is in Las Vegas. For one, there are a lot nicer people in the south. The views are what makes me miss it, but I’m happy here in Georgia.” When asked about what she would change about the world, her answer was very similar: “I would like to change how kind everyone is to each other. I think there could be a lot more kindness around us, and I think a lot of that has to do with social media. So I would like to change how social media affects us so heavily to be mean and rude.”

One thing she likes about the South is Heritage. Henson said, “I do wanna go to the city, but I really like it here at Heritage: I like the environment they made for us here, and how nice this school is.” Henson is taking three writing classes at HHS this year, including Mr. Peace’s Journalism class, while taking on Dual Enrollment and working on her ACT preparation. She enjoys Journalism so far this semester and is planning on returning next year as a senior. She likes how busy her classwork makes her, as it will prepare her for what the world holds for her outside of high school. She is ready for college, and even though she is unsure about which job she would like to pursue, she seems confident in two options. Henson plans to either be a physician assistant (PA) or follow in her dad’s footsteps and pursue a career in computer programming. Henson is motivated to do well in school for what follows after and being successful with a good amount of cash.

Henson not only loves high school for how it’s shaping her future but also for the time she gets to spend with her friends. Henson and her friends like to ride around in their free time. She said, “We just drive: there is no way of telling where we’re going some days. We just like being with each other driving around.” Even though she finds happiness in driving around, she hates to see when people drive Kia Souls. No explanation–just a dislike of the car.

While Henson isn’t at school or driving around with her friends, she enjoys watching the “After” movie franchise with the stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Josephine Langford. This is her favorite movie series, but “After We Collided” is her favorite out of the four movies. She takes part in the trend of loving “Twilight” but prefers to read the books instead of watching the saga. Henson is proudly on team Jacob but can’t explain what it is about him that made her team Jacob. Henson is enjoying her junior year so far and can’t wait to continue her year and a half here at HHS and move on to further projects.
