The Heritage Varsity Volleyball team ended a strong season by competing at State level and bringing the season to a close with an overall record of 30-7. The Generals started the season strong by winning their first non-region game against Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe, 2-0. After that, the Generals started regional play with their first games against county rivals, Ringgold (1-2), Cartersville (2-0), and Allatoona (0-2). Despite enduring two losses, the girls made a strong comeback with a three-game winning streak, defeating Sonoraville (2-0), Christian Heritage (2-0), and Grovetown (2-0). After making this comeback, the girls took another loss to Buford (0-2) but worked hard to beat Lumpkin County (2-0), but then again they lost to Cherokee (0-2). The girls then had a remarkable seven-game winning streak against teams like Central Carrollton (2-0), Southeast Whitfield (2-0), and Lafayette (2-0), interrupted briefly by a loss to North Cobb (0-2). The Generals had a close match against–but still beat–Soddy Daisy (2-1). After losing to Signal Mountain (0-2), the Generals went on a remarkably long winning streak of fifteen games, besting teams like Ridgeland (2-0), Gordon Lee (2-0), Oak Wood Christian (2-0), and Cedartown (2-0). The closest game that they played during this streak was against Central (2-1).
Because of their success in the region, the Generals entered the State Playoffs, winning in the first round against Southwest DeKalb, 3-0. The Generals fell to Westminster (0-3) in the next round, bringing a strong season to a close. Senior Tilda Lindroth said, “Our last game against West Minister went to three sets, and even though we lost I think we played our hearts out and did our best.” “I think we were a little disappointed with where we ended up at State, having to play such a high-rank team so early on,” said Coach Kari Cooper. That said, the team, Coach Cooper said, “still met our goal of winning the Region Championship, and we always had fun at the tournaments we played. We were able to come up with some big wins against some tough teams.” Looking back over the season, sophomore Adalie Phillips said, “I really enjoyed this year on Varsity because I got to grow my friendships with a lot of the girls and I really enjoyed the serious moments where we worked hard but I also appreciated the funny moments too.” Senior Sienna Dye said, “I’m really glad I got to play with this team for four years, and the progress we made was amazing.”
