Whether it is sprinting, long jumps, or shot put and discus, the Heritage Track team never fails to come out victorious. The team started their season at home against Calhoun. Our Girls’ Track team dominated over the opponents, winning by 70-plus points over the second place team. The Boys’ team lost a close one to Calhoun by one losing point (88-87).  Overall, this meet, and 1st place win, was a great success for the Generals. The Southeast Invitational meet ended up no worse than the first one. The Heritage Girls’ Track & Field team finished in 1st place at the Southeast Invitational. The Boys’ team battled their way to a 3rd place finish among the 11 teams at the meet. “The third meet was canceled due to rain, but the day it was moved forward to, it rained even more, so the track meet was really wet and chilly,” said Coach Gibson. However, the Generals showed up and showed out! The Girls’ team finished in 2nd place out of 11 teams and the Boys’ team finished 6th out of 14 teams. Mohawk Invitational was great for the Generals. Both teams showed incredible results in the meeting. Girls team finished 3rd out of 13 teams, and the Boys finished 6th. Last and the most notable meet was at Dalton. Heritage Generals Girls’ Track team finished 2nd at the Dalton Rotary out of 13 teams.  The Boys’ team finished 5th.

Through the season we can notice some great improvements in the team and players. One of the most improved individuals through the season on a boys team is junior Travis Faulkner. From the beginning of the season he showed the biggest growth. He set the school record in the 110 hurdles, and improved as a relay player. Seniors Aaliyah Rodgers and Avah Morrison showed outstanding results. “Aaliyah has been someone that has super consistency, even her freshman year, and she is a senior this year. She just has been somebody that has been a pillar of our program,” explained Coach Gibson. As for senior Avah Morrisin, she showed the best results in the team. “Avah Morrison has obviously been a State Champion discus thrower, our shot put record holder, and she is still chasing our discus record set by Raleigh Lewis a few years ago, but at the same time, just her consistent high level of performance has been awesome,” added Coach Gibson. Next season the teams want to focus on improving their scores to get a higher chance to get into regionals and all the sprints need to get better. Even with all the things that need to be improved next season, this season was one of the best for both teams.
