Mrs. Tami Fleming is a new addition to the Heritage family. Prior to joining the Heritage High School staff, Mrs. Fleming had been teaching for 18 years. She spent nine years at Dalton High School and nine years at Ringgold High School. Fleming got her undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University, masters from Georgia Southern University, and specialist from Augusta University. She has taught English as a second language and Journalism before becoming a full time English teacher.
One of Fleming’s favorite hobbies is reading. Her favorite book is “Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers, and her favorite book to teach is “A Tale Of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens.
Fleming’s first impression of the school was that “The staff really seems to enjoy working here and the students actually look forward to coming to school. And it’s just a place where every kid can find their group and a place where they feel welcome and that’s what’s really important.”
Fleming’s high school experience and how she wanted to impact other students and their lives she stated that; “Honestly, I didn’t really like high school” she stated. “I remember when an English teacher of mine said that she thought I was going to be a teacher and I said, ‘I don’t like high school now. I’ll never work at a school.’ But, by the end of that year I realized that I haven’t had the right kind of teacher, so I want to be a teacher who makes kids enjoy being in class and feel welcome. I want to be just a happy presence for them everyday.”
With many things to offer this year, Mrs. Fleming stated, “I’m looking forward to all of it. I cannot wait to see what the pep rallies are like, because it already sounds like there’s a lot that goes into planning them. I’m also excited to go to football games.” If you spot Mrs. Fleming at a football game be sure to welcome her and show her a little school spirit!
