Despite having a great soccer team for the past few years, the Lady Generals may have an unfortunate outcome due to the lack of players. After losing five seniors, they are down to a whopping twelve players. The new coach, Mr. Justin Butler, is hoping for approximately 20 players, an unattainable goal unless a miracle happens before tryouts in January.
Senior goalkeeper Emily Holcomb said that they “don’t even have enough players to scrimmage each other” during practices. How is the team ever supposed to improve if they can’t even create a game-like environment? The team has gone to State for the past three years, but that may be impossible if they don’t have a full team of players. Senior Zoie St. John, Heritage’s forward, said, “we need players.”
It would be great to be a part of a team that feels more like a family. That’s almost a guarantee for the Lady Generals. Holcomb said, “It’s very fun and all of us treat each other like family.” If you have even thought about trying out for the soccer team this season, contemplate it seriously. This team has a real chance to be great, if only they had enough players. “Anyone can come try out. No matter what type of experience you have with soccer,” Coach Butler explained.
There was a Girls Soccer meeting on August the 17th, but don’t worry if you missed it. Coach Butler only introduced himself and explained that pre-tryout workouts would start sometime in November and will go until tryouts sometime in January. If you are considering trying out for the Girls Soccer team, no matter your skill set, come to workouts in November so you can start conditioning your body for tryouts. Anybody is welcome to show up. We would love to have you be a part of our team and family.
