On a cold March day, fans waited in the stands clapping as Nery Taboada took the field, ready to have the game of his life. As he pondered what move he was going to make, he took in the moment. Everything felt like it was going in slow motion, he readied himself and took the shot.
What does passion mean to some people? For Taboada, his passion is soccer. He said, “Soccer fills that space of activity that I look for, it makes me feel important.” Taboada is a sophomore at Heritage High School, and has been playing soccer since he was about five years old. He found something he loved and was good at, so he stuck with it, and it has paid off.
Many people who know Taboada, like his friend Carson Rich, have said he is a very funny and passionate person. Commenting on his friend, Rich said, “Nery always said to me keep grinding life and don’t stop.” This shows that Taboada is encouraging to his friends and how he has an impact on people. His love for soccer and his love for friends mix very well; without his love for both, he wouldn’t be who he is today. Taboada values his friendships very much. One of his favorite memories with his friends was listening to music blasting in the car with his head out the window, singing the lyrics.
Along with soccer and his friends, Taboada is also in Journalism, and he is loving the class so far. He likes the creative aspects of the class, and the time he gets to talk and hangout with his friends. It is Taboada’s first time in Journalism, but he has shown a promising interest in the class. Taboada hopes to learn more about what it takes to be a part of Journalism, and make a difference here at Heritage High School. Taboada will thrive in Journalism, no doubt. He will do amazing things in Journalism and in this school. He can’t wait to see what life offers and how he can thrive here at Heritage!
