Earlier this year Mrs. Hamilton and the Chamber Choir headed down to Georgia State University for SingFest. Every year, GSU hosts one of its most anticipated events: SingFest. This vibrant celebration is a showcase of musical talent, community spirit, and diverse culture. It is held annually in the heart of the campus. SingFest brings together students, faculty, and alumni for an unforgettable day of performances.
The preparation for the choir was tough. They had to put in a lot of extra work outside of school. “We practiced for weeks and weeks in and out of school,” said junior Haley Rens “They had to learn two pieces in just 3 or 4 rehearsals after school, only using a little bit of class time,” explained Director Jenifer Hamilton. However, it paid off when the Generals took the stage. “We performed really well. We sang all of our parts right, we had everything memorized, and we got a big applause,” said Rens.
Although this process was not easy, it came with a lot of extra perks and advantages for the students who went to SingFest. “It gets them on campus at Georgia State University, which gives them experience for the ones who want to go and be in the choir in college. They also get to hear and perform with the GSU singers and the other 700 kids that are there as well,” said Mrs. Hamilton. Students who go get to have cool experiences and have fun but most importantly they learn many different things. “ During rehearsals Georgia States conductors came and had a conduction workshop with our kids. They also had Georgia State’s amazing conductor, Deanna Joseph, helping them,” said Mrs. Hamilton.
In conclusion, SingFest is an important event for the Chamber Choir. It made good memories and brought the choir together. This first performance of the year set the stage for the competitions to come.
