With the holiday season approaching yet again, Heritage’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is sponsoring its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to provide food for families in need within Heritage High School and our community. The drive is active until November 19th. During this time students are encouraged to bring prepackaged and easily prepared foods like canned meats and vegetables, soups, juices, flour, food mixes, rice, or pasta. They’re also requesting for people to bring in household items such as paper towels, aluminum foil, disposable utensils, and dishes. Students can send in cash donations, with each dollar donated counting as two food items. It is important to note that non-perishable food items, meaning things that can be stored long term without spoiling, such as ramen noodles will be accepted but won’t count towards your first block class total.
All donations must be brought to your first block teacher who can email the sponsor, Ms. Leslie Sawyer. An FBLA member will then be sent to your class to collect the donation. Because the food drive is still considered a competitive event, the donations made will contribute to a total for each first block class. It is important to note that non-perishable food items, meaning things that can be stored long term without spoiling, such as ramen noodles will be accepted but won’t count towards your first block class total. The class that brings in the highest quantity of donations will be given a pizza and Coke party provided and paid for by the FBLA club. The drive does not have a donation goal set in stone, but every year they aim to raise more than the previous one.
If you have the means and resources to help feed the members of our community, please consider pitching in with our Thanksgiving Food Drive and give us all something to be thankful for this holiday season.
