This month, our school is hosting a unique fundraiser combining Thanksgiving cheer with teacher appreciation. Students can purchase paper turkey feathers from the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) for 25 cents each to decorate their teachers’ classrooms and show their gratitude. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the Angel Tree program at Woodstation and Boynton elementary schools.
The Angel Tree Program allows children to write down what they want for Christmas on angels and hang them up on trees. The profits from the turkey feather fundraiser is going toward getting children the gifts that they asked for.
The colorful paper feathers were available for purchase at a table in the lobby during lunch or in Coach Cooper’s classroom throughout this week. It was a fun and creative way to brighten a teacher’s day while supporting a meaningful cause.
The competition has been heating up among teachers the week before Thanksgiving. Mr. Hunter Johnston had been in the lead, but Mrs. Ivy Fennell was been a strong contender. Mr. Johnston came out on top in the end, but the dentations and love towards every single teacher are what really matters in the end. “The largest order of feathers that we received was for Mrs. Handy,” FCCLA sponsor Coach Cooper said, “She received 200 feathers the first year I started working here.”
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, this fundraiser is a reminder of the importance of gratitude and generosity. Whether you buy one feather or a hundred, every contribution helps spread joy to teachers and children alike.
