Tyler, The Creator is one of the most talented artists of this generation, and all of his albums have insane success. “CHROMOKOPIA” dropped on October 28th, 2024, and debuted as number 1 on the Billboard 200. Tyler announced the album on October 16th, and posted multiple snippets throughout the 12 day wait. Many people were excited to see the features, after a “St. Chroma” snippet, hypothesizing that Frank Ocean–God bless his soul–was on the album. Unfortunately, he was not.
The collaborations on the album ended up consisting of Daniel Caesar, Teezo Touchdown, GloRilla, Sexyy Red, Lil Wayne, LaToiya Williams, ScHoolboy Q, Santigold, Lola Young, and Doechii. My personal favorites off this album are “Darling, I,” “Hey Jane,” “I Killed You,” and “Tomorrow.”
“Darling, I” is the fourth track on the album, and has a very fun, upbeat kind of melody. The lyrics are all about love, and Tyler’s opinions on it. I was pleasantly surprised by Teezo Touchdown’s feature. It was really enjoyable, and reminded me of his feature in “Modern Jam” on “UTOPIA” last year. It’s one of my favorites off the album.
“Hey Jane” is the next track I want to speak on. It’s the fifth track on the album, and it tells the story of a woman who suddenly and unexpectedly got pregnant by Tyler. The song switches between Tyler’s and Jane’s perspective on the situation, with Tyler opening many of his lines with “Hey Jane,” which I think is very cool.
“I Killed You” is the sixth song off the album, and it is my genuine all time favorite off this album. This song is about Tyler’s struggles with his hair, and learning to accept, love, and care for his hair texture throughout the years. It’s about his own experience as well as how so many other people just force their hair to relax, rather than learning the way to care for it. This song has really interesting and powerful lyrics about his struggles with his hair that I find very interesting.
Overall, “CHROMOKOPIA” was amazing, as all of Tyler’s work is. An easy 10/10, this album has stayed in the rotation of my music since it dropped. However, Tyler please, please, please, pretty please get Frank on the next album. I miss him so much.
