Recently, Heritage’s own Christmas tree has been put up in place of the lunch tables that used to be in the upstairs main lobby. We got our Christmas tree from Peavine Baptist Church, who donated it after hearing Heritage’s request for one. They did it because they had a spare and didn’t need it. This will mark Heritage’s 16th Christmas tree since they first started putting them up in 2009, a year after they were first founded. Although they stopped putting them up for a few years, this tradition is now here to stay.
“Years ago we put a tree up in the main foyer, probably 15 years ago,” Mr. Chris Douglass said. After their first tree, it became a tradition, but due to other complications, they stopped for a period of time.
But once they started putting it up again, the tree became an annual tradition, and this year, students are allowed to bring their own ornaments or create their own to put onto the tree. Some teachers are offering in-class time to create these ornaments, while others are just checking them off to make sure they’re school appropriate. All ornaments must go through a teacher, just in case.
The design of the tree this year focused on the lighting, technical aspects, and the overall look on the garland on the railings. Because of the complexity of the electrical aspects, our staff had to be extra considerate of the placement of the tree, as well as the accessories that followed. Teachers took an extra amount of time making sure the garland was straight and perfect to ensure the design flowed fluently. This year, there wasn’t any reference they were working off of, they just rolled with it.
Both teachers and students alike are proud of the look of the tree this year. Not only is it beautiful and bright, but it also allows students to present their creativity to other people by creating ornaments. Although this tree will only be up for a month or so, be sure to stop by and place an ornament on it next time you walk by. Just make sure you have a teacher’s permission first!
