Senior Assassin is officially in full swing! Heritage has facilitated the game since last year, and we are now in round three. The game itself is similar to tag, but with some extra rules to enhance the experience. The game works through the Splashin’ app, with pretty simple rules. You cannot join in as of right now, but if you were eliminated in a previous round, you can pay the 5$ revival fee. Senior Assassin is played exclusively outside of school hours, (8:15-3:30,) and with the newest rule change, cannot be played on campus under any circumstances. Obviously, you cannot go onto private property to reach your target. The most dangerous time for people playing are the purge nights. Every Friday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, if you eliminate your target, you get their target. Hypothetically, you are able to continue on throughout the night, getting out as many people as you could.
To eliminate someone, they must be either sprayed with a water gun that is vibrantly colored, or have a water bucket dumped on them. All water guns must stay in student’s cars while at school. It isn’t a full free for all, targets can protect themselves by wearing floaties around the waist, or goggles. If you choose goggles, the straps must be above your shoulders, and visible to anyone. As for places other than Heritage, targets cannot be eliminated during church, work, school, ceremonies, or any family events either. You can eliminate a target inside their home with an invitation from another family member. You also are only able to shoot at the person from the porch or doorstep.
Since the game is split into rounds, bounties also come into play. If you survive through the round, but fail to eliminate your target for said round, a bounty will be placed on you. All of this is visible inside the Splashin’ app. This just means that anyone could eliminate you until your original target is eliminated, though goggles and floaties still work for perfect defense. If there are two consecutive rounds where you have not eliminated either target, you will receive a double bounty where previous protection aids will no longer work. If you revive after a bounty death, your bounty is removed, and you can play just as everyone else would.
As of right now, entering the third round, there are 18 double bounties, 20 revivals, 18 single bounties, 42 safe players, and a prize pot sitting at 735$. The first, second and third places are held by Nate Trobaugh, Kylie Robertson, and James McPheters. Trobaugh has reached eight eliminations, Robertson had four, and McPheters eliminated three targets.
Hannah Karson is a student who currently has a double bounty on her head. Karson said the game is very enjoyable, despite her having little to no way to defend herself. “It’s really fun, it’s kind of anxiety inducing, but it’s still really fun,” stated Karson. Senior Assassin has also brought much of the class of ‘25 closer, “My favorite part of the game is how much it brings together the people in my grade. I’ve met some new people I’ve never spoken to before in my grade through this.” Karson said. The game is obviously very entertaining, and will hopefully remain in the Heritage traditions for many years to come.
