Heritage’s golf teams have been on fire the last few years. With their amazing season in the spring semester of 2025, the Generals are going nowhere but up. Coach Lutgen as well as Coach Skiles have been working tirelessly to improve both the student’s performance, and the resources provided to our lovely Heritage golfers. While the new school year begins, new expansions to the program follow. As of the first week of August, the golf teams new training facility is undergoing construction, hopefully to be fully built and operational before the end of the winter and fall semester of this year.
The project was originally brought up to administrators such as Mr. Phillips and Mr. Lusk, before being brought to the school board for final approval. After that, it was all up to funding. Heritage’s very own coaches, Lutgen and Skiles, had to collect this funding themselves during the summer. They reached the set donation goal through many different donors throughout summer break.
The building itself is going to be an extension onto the already existing pole barn, near the creek on the borders of Heritage property. It is a 14-foot extension onto the back, including a 50-foot width. This expansion will have a roof and be covered, but will have a similar structure to the pole barn it is expanded from. It will be open to use for both the boy’s and girl’s team, as well as the middle school’s team. Regarding the purpose of the new facility, Coach Skiles said “Golf has a lot of muscle memory with the swing. We’ll work on fine-tuning clubs, speed, accuracy, and things like that.” The building will include five hitting bays with nets as well as turf. The expansion will also include launch monitors, which can tell a user if they shot straight or not, as well as how fast their shot was. The teams will practice their moves using all of this new equipment. The golf team’s new privileges will definitely be a game changer, and Heritage will see their scores continue to rise this upcoming season.
