Senior wrestler Blaine Bird is not only one of the top wrestlers at a school, but in the state. He is ranked in the top 5 in the State of Georgia in his weight class. Bird has remained most of the season undefeated, until Tennessee’s State champion beat him by just a few points. His main goal was not to stay undefeated, but to make it to a State Championship. Since Blaine has been in high school, the team has only won one State championship, but he wants to add one more to the list. “If all our injuries heal, we have all our key players back, and continue to be a good wrestling team, I believe we can win State,” exclaimed Bird. Bird has been wrestling since sixth grade and has grown so close with all the wrestlers. “I’ve become so close with my teammates; they are more like brothers. We support each other and push each other to work harder. I’ve wrestled with most of these people all my life, and we’ve grown to always support each other and never let each other down. Our team morale is great. ” When I asked Bird if there was anything special about his last year wrestling he admitted, “It’s really the last shot I have. I’m going to try to be a leader and step-up to encourage my teammates. I will make this season the best of them all.”
