This year, the cross-country (XC) team built an unbreakable bond through their hard work, talent, faith, and spirit. “It’s a blessing to get to work with this great group of young athletes,” Michael Craft, the team’s coach, said. Co-coach Dillon Crowder said,“I get to be around people all day that are inspired to do one of the most mentally tough things that’s humanly possible.”
Many fond memories were formed within the team this year. Coach Craft’s favorite memory was“getting to host the state and the region championship race.” Alex Quinn, while reminiscing about personal achievements, said that the best part was, “getting as fast as I can.” Some team-mates had even more funny memories. Adison Steadman mentioned that she enjoyed, “dressing up to go to Olive Garden.” Landon Tally even jokingly said the greatest moments were when he won.
While the girls’ team faced many challenges this year, from sickness to injury, that didn’t stop their love and dedication for the sport or deter their ability to power through the struggles. A sophomore on the team, Emily Ray, even mentioned that being a part of the team “feels like a family,” and she made it clear how close the team truly is. “They came in behind and ended up as region runner-up and qualified for state. I’m really proud of the way the girls worked hard and improved,” Coach Craft said.
The boys’ team won the regional championship, one of the only three in school history, and tied this year’s season by placing fifth in the state. Coach Craft seemed to be very proud of their progress deeming them as “talented athletes.” Coach Crowder agreed, and said it was “very impressive.”
Overall, the improvement and talent of both teams of athletes on this were beyond amazing. These students have given all they can into this season and it really shows, and has definitely paid off.
