After a season of consistent effort and preparation, the Heritage Generals Cheer team took home the State Championship. Competing against teams from across the state, the Generals delivered a controlled, well-executed routine that reflected their discipline and teamwork, resulting in a win that was well earned.
The team entered the championship following a strong regular season. Heritage placed first at every regular season competition and finished second at Regionals, qualifying them for the state meet. Earlier in the season, the Generals also set a school record at the Dalton competition, earning a score of 102.5 the highest score Heritage Cheer has ever achieved. Congratulations to Hannah Daniel, Jada Shockley, and Lyla Bible for qualifying for the Region 7AAA All-Region Team.
For senior Hannah Daniel, stepping onto the floor for the final time was emotional. “It was really exciting, and it’s something I’ve loved doing for so long,” Daniel said. “Knowing it was the last time was really sad, but also a lot of fun.” She described the moments before the announcement as tense, saying she was “literally shaking” while holding her teammates’ hands as they waited for results.
Jada Shockley, also a senior, shared similar feelings, describing the performance as both nerve-wracking and meaningful. “It was very scary and nerve-wracking, and also sad because it was the last time,” Shockley said. Despite the nerves she said she had a feeling the team had done enough to win. “Before they called first place, I kind of knew it was us, but it was still terrifying.”
Sophomore Lyla Bible reflected on the reward of competing after months of preparation. “It was cool to finally compete after working all year,” Bible said. “I’m thankful I got the opportunity to be on that mat.” She recalled the final announcements as a blur of nerves and adrenaline as placements were announced one by one.
The difference between the bus ride to the competition and the ride home reflected the team’s emotions. According to Bible, the ride there was quiet as athletes prepared mentally. After the win, the ride back was filled with celebration. Daniel noted that the team listened to music, celebrated together, and stopped to eat on the way home.
With a state title, multiple first-place finishes, and a school record score, this Generals season stands as one of the most successful in Heritage Cheer history.
