SkillsUSA is a club that is focused on developing and gaining more knowledge on the talents and business skills one already possesses. This year’s SkillsUSA Region results showed that we have some very talented Generals at HHS. From Pin and Shirt Designing to Crime Scene Investigation, these students’ hard work truly paid off.
Jules Harbort won first place overall for pin design. She created a small, tradable pin within the theme of Georgia and SkillsUSA, and she tied it all together by making the pin in the shape of the Georgia state flower. She shared that she really would like her pin to become a trading pin at state conferences, saying she would “freak out” if that actually happened.
Aaliyah Hill, Tucker Trentham, and Dakota Bar all worked together to win the crime scene investigation competition. All three of them partnered up to narrate, take photos, and even got high scores for the deciding test. “I was scared. We made a lot of mistakes, and it was a tense competition, but I was excited,” Hill said.
Madison Roloff won third place for ad design. She was given a prompt for a company and had to create an advertisement and logo based off of the prompt. “I felt accomplished that I even did it because I was really nervous, and I was just excited that I even competed,” Roloff said.
Ruah Moon placed second for T-shirt design. She designed a shirt on Adobe Illustrator, keeping a Georgia and SkillsUSA overall theme, and explained to the judges why her shirt is good quality and why people would want to wear it. “I was kind of surprised, it was unexpected because there were a lot of people competing, it felt good,” Moon said.
Overall, this year’s regional SkillsUSA competition was a success. Everyone’s projects really showed how much talent they possess. If you see any of these winners in the hallway, make sure to congratulate them on their hard work.
