Flag football, a sport that demands both strategy and athleticism, saw a standout defensive performance this season. Addi Dills and Emmi Gomez consistently elevated their game, becoming indispensable to the team’s efforts. Their exceptional play earned them the title of Co-Defensive players of the year, a testament to their leadership, skill, and unwavering commitment on the field. Throughout the season, Dills and Gomez not only anchored the defense but also inspired their teammates, shaping a season defined by remarkable achievements.
Dills, a senior, proved to be a dominant and dependable presence all over the field. Finishing the season with 62 tackles, seven interceptions, two sacks, and 11
passes defended, Dills played a crucial role in shutting down opposing offenses. Her awareness and consistency allowed her to anticipate plays and make game-changing stops when her team needed them most. Beyond the statistics, her impact extended to the growth of the program itself. “It was so meaningful to see the team improve, ” Dills said, reflecting on the season’s progress, noting that this year was a major step forward from last season. She expressed excitement about watching younger players continue to develop and succeed in the coming years. “Being a part of flag football gave me the opportunity to help create chances for other girls and encourage them to believe in what they are capable of achieving,” said Dills. Her message to future players is simple but powerful: “don’t be scared—go for it—because you never know how good you can be.”
Alongside her, Gomez, a junior, brought intensity, determination, and heart to the defense, especially as a pass rusher. Gomez recorded 37 tackles, an impressive 13 sacks, and two passes defended, consistently applying pressure to opposing quarterbacks and shifting the momentum of games. While she felt sad about the season coming to an end, Gomez described it as a rewarding experience that pushed her beyond what she thought she could do. Being part of the team motivated her to work harder, try new things, and challenge herself both on and off the field. Her advice to teammates and future players reflects her mindset: it’s okay to be nervous—what matters is continuing to push yourself and giving your best effort.
Together, Dills and Gomez set the standard for defensive excellence.
