“THE MASK”

Shae Moseley

Don’t be fooled by me.

Don’t be fooled by the face I wear

For I wear a mask; a thousand masks, masks that I’m afraid to take off and none of them is me.

No one cared who I was until I put on the mask.

Behind the smile, the courage, and the laughter;

Lies the hurt, pain, and sorrow is the mask that lies me. The me you never took the time to get to know.

If you wear a mask for so long, you forget who you were beneath it.

The face can speak a million emotions, but it can easily mask what the heart truly feels.

Be weird, random, and be who you are because you never know who would love the person you hide.

We create a mask to meet the masks of others and then we wonder why we cannot love, and why we feel so alone.

Hiding behind a mask is like when Superman hides behind his glasses.

You never know when someone’s hiding their mask.

Do they love you or the mask you put on every day?

We wear a mask and that mask is not to hide who we are but to create what we are.
