GRIMES WEBWEEZER WEB

Grimes has been a critical darling and immensely successful underground artist, but her indie roots were hidden quickly by her breakout hits, “Oblivion” and “Genesis,” along with signing to Roc Nation. She recently announced her fourth album, “Art Angels,” and has given us a single, “Flesh With No Blood.” This track is a definite departure from the hazy production and melodies seen on her previous record, “Visions,” and loses much of her charm with its obnoxiously commercial approach to synthpop and electronic music. This leaves me anxious for what the album itself will sound like. “Art Angels” is due out November 8 via 4AD records.

Weezer has recently seen a revival in attention from music fans and critics alike after the release of their excellent “Everything Will Be Alright In the End.” This saw them taking a more mature approach to their sound that mirrored that of earlier releases like “Pinkerton” and “Weezer (The Blue Album).” After a post on their social media accounts teasing the cover of a new single “Thank God for Girls,” Weezer has delivered it along with an interesting music video that isn’t to be spoiled. The song itself, while not being anything groundbreaking for the band, is pretty decent. It’s a got fun hook and adds some synthesizers into the mix without breaking off into cringe territory. “Thank God for Girls” is a great track and has me excited for whatever new record that they may be teasing with it.
