A LAKER, DROWNING

A LAKER, DROWNING

Nolan Skiles, Staff Writer

It seems that the new prodigy for the Los Angeles Lakers is in training to become a spy, although he has some work to do if he wants to be any good. Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell is at the center of a massive amount of hate and controversy for taping a conversation between himself and fellow teammate Nick Young, in which Young divulged the information that he had cheated on his fiancé, pop/rap superstar Iggy Azalea.

The team said that they have been participating in a “prank war” for most of the season, a practice that has become common throughout the NBA. Russell claimed that his taping of his and Young’s conversation was meant to be a part of the prank war, although he is unsure how it was released to the public. However, this “prank” may end up costing him dearly. He has already been shunned by his teammates, being forced to eat, work out, and even practice alone, but that may not be the end of the trials Russell could face. California is a two-way-consent state, meaning that the taping of the conversation is against the law and that the young point guard might be facing jail time for his actions. Russell has made statements expressing his regret and has apologized profusely to Young, his fiancé Azalea, the Lakers organization, and the entirety of the NBA, saying that his actions were wrong and that he will attempt to mend bridges. Despite all this though, the up-and-coming star’s career may already be over, before it even really began.
