RUN TO WIN

Melissa Ramos, Staff Writer

Saturday, August 27, 2016, the girls’ and boys’ cross country team went all the way to Rome, Georgia, to race against more than fifteen schools! Although it was a hot day, that did not stop the Lady Generals from bringing home a second place trophy. Some of our Lady Generals placed in the top twenty in a race of more than 120 people:  Noor Sabeeh, placed 8th, Alex Gas placed 18th, and Caylee Carpenter placed 19th.

Although the guys did not take a trophy home, they returned with some goals to achieve! Our fastest guy, Jerryd Tennyson, placed 4th place with a time of 17:35, running each mile in five and a half minutes! Through some hard and really hot practices, they will soon achieve their goals for this season. The boys’ cross country team sure has some gifted people. Since there were so many new people on the team this year, I decided to ask them about their experiences. Carah Boyd, a sophomore decided to run cross country for the first time because her twin brother, Caleb Boyd ran cross country.

Melissa Ramos:  Since this is your first race, are you proud of your time?

Carah Boyd: “Yes!”

MR:  What did you like and/or dislike about the race?

CB:” I liked that it was mainly flat, and I did better than I thought I would. I didn’t like that I stopped running twice.”

MR:  What are your goals for this season?

CB: “My goals are to keep improving, work on my breathing, and keeping a constant pace until the end when I speed up, and make good friendships with my teammates. “

This is the first race out of ten, and there is no doubt the Generals will not stop improving to achieve their goals, because for them there are no eXCuses.
