ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Connor Harlan, Editor-in-Chief

Malia Buchanan, a sophomore, has loved playing softball all her life. In fact, she’s been playing the sport since she was four years old. “I love playing softball because I really like to hit. Making really good hits just gives me so much confidence.” While her confidence plays a role in her performance, what also goes in is hard work and dedication. Coach Carter calls her “A phenomenal kid, the kind of player that every coach wants on their team.” He went on to say that “She shows up every day to practice, and even though she wasn’t a starter this year, she was always willing to do her best and do what she was told.” Malia’s position on the HHS Softball team is in the outfield, and she mostly plays left field. Coach Alan Broom was highly praising of Malia’s performance, stating that “She makes a great floor sweeper.” When not playing softball, Malia is hard at work to make excellent grades. She is a member of SGA and wrote for the General Journal during her freshman year. She is the General Journal’s Athlete of the Month.
