The Future Business Leaders of America went to a region competition recently, and they were very successful. Heritage had nine students receive medals and qualify for the state level competition. Ryan Craft, Allen Steele, Marie Coffey, and Caroline Coffey are the team members who will be competing at State, where they will be tested on their business knowledge and skills, and the team will play Monopoly.

At regions, each FBLA member competed in different events such as Economics, Entrepreneurship, Speaking, Introduction to Financial Math, Introduction to Information Technology, and more. Before each competition, the students got preparation time where they would go into a room and practice their presentation. Then they would go into a room with about three or four judges and do their thing. They also participated in leadership workshops while at the event. After the competitions, the contestants were allowed to leave and go eat dinner, and then they returned to watch the awards ceremony.

I talked to Marie Coffey, and she said that she believes the team will do well at the state competition and hopes the team will succeed to the national competition. At state, the teams will participate in a friendly game of Monopoly, and after the game, whichever team has the highest score gets to go to nationals. The team will split up while at state and each member will be doing different things. They will be taking tests in subjects like business, math, and economics. Marie believes it will be a very fun experience for the FBLA gang.
