EDITORIAL: DO IT FOR THE CON

Sydney Shaver, Staff Writer

Most people don’t find dressing up and walking around town to be normal, but it really is a lot of fun. You can talk to people and get their pictures if you really like their costumes. You can sit in on panels, talking about some of your favorite shows, comics, movies, and anime. You just get to be a nerd for a day, and I love it. I enjoy being able to be someone else for a few hours. I’m not someone who spends forever and a day making their costume, but I enjoy seeing people who are and really enjoy making these elaborate costumes. Costumes can be anywhere from a simple t-shirt and jeans or these detailed pieces and props. It can look like they spend hours every day to make them as intricate as possible. It’s something interesting that you get to enjoy. People are really dedicated to making sure that these costumes are absolutely perfect.

I’m so excited February 26, 2017, because we’re going to Con Nooga which is Tennessee’s largest multi-fandom convention for three days in Chattanooga. A few friends and I are going dressed up as characters from a video game called “Undertale.” We’re pulling together and helping each other to create our costumes to make a cohesive group costume that people will understand. It’s probably one of my favorite things to do. I enjoy putting on a costume and turning into someone else. It helps me to escape from this harsh reality and relieve the stress of everything.  I love it and already can’t wait until my next convention.
