SIGNS OF CHANGE FOR HARRY STYLES

This past week, previous One Direction singer and X-Factor contestant, Harry Styles, released a single called “Sign of the Times.” It wasn’t something that I really expected. When I think of One Direction, I think of bubbly pop. But when I heard this, it was the exact opposite of what I thought it would be. It’s slower and more melodic. The lyrics were beautiful and left a lot to be interpreted such as “Just stop your crying, it’s a sign of the times. Welcome to the final show. Hope you’re wearing your best clothes. You can’t bribe the door on your way to the sky.” In an interview with Rolling Stone he stated that his song is about “Most of the stuff that hurts me about what’s going on at the moment is not politics, its fundamentals … Equal rights. For everyone, all races, sexes, everything. …  ’Sign of the Times’ came from ‘This isn’t the first time we’ve been in a hard time, and it’s not going to be the last time.’ The song is written from a point of view as if a mother was giving birth to a child and there’s a complication. The mother is told, ‘The child is fine, but you’re not going to make it.’ The mother has five minutes to tell the child, ‘Go forth and conquer.’” It has such a deep and powerful meaning, and his voice is amazing whenever he’s singing this new single. The live version, which was performed on Saturday Night Live, was even better than the recording of it. Harry Styles is coming out with a self titled album on May 12. I am already excited and can’t wait to listen to it.
