On Tuesday, during its latest earnings report, Disney announced that it will be pulling their movies off the highly popular streaming service: Netflix.  Instead of keeping their movies on Netflix, Disney has plans on starting their own streaming service which is currently unnamed. Disney plans on starting it in the U.S. by 2019 and then releasing it globally.   While Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that Disney had a “good relationship” with Netflix, the company decided it was in their best interest to move their movies off the service. Movies will stay on Netflix until the end of 2018. Movies that will be taken off Netflix include “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” and all of its Pixar titles. However, Marvel TV shows such as “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” and “Iron Fist” will remain. The new Disney streaming service will make a “significant investment” in exclusive movies and TV shows. The company also has plans for an ESPN streaming service for early 2018. The content on this streaming site will include sporting events from MLB, NHL, and many more. To help run and power the servers, Disney is investing $1.58 billion in BAM Tech. “This represents a big strategic shift for the company. We felt that having control of a platform we’ve been very impressed with after buying 33 percent of it a year ago would give us control of our destiny,” Iger said to media outlet CNBC.  Following the announcement made by Disney, Netflix stocks have dropped over five percent.
