If you would like to shoot airsoft guns, take down “bad guys,” learn the loopholes of criminal law, or even go into a career in law enforcement, then the Public Safety Pathway is for you! You will learn the ins and outs of the amendments to the Constitution and the laws that the police must follow when on duty. It isn’t all bookwork about the laws of this country though. For example, this week, the Marine Corps came to Heritage to teach about career possibilities in the military. The Marines will come again to teach advanced defensive tactics and hand-to-hand combat to the second-level class. Next week, the intro students will learn how to handcuff a suspect and will perfect the art of the takedown. There is always something fun and exciting going on in every class of this pathway. For example, the third-phase class will be conducting vehicle assault with the Navy and will learn how to raid a bus and rescue a hostage. This pathway is NOT for the type of person who doesn’t like to participate in activities and scenarios though. If you take this class, you will be given opportunities to talk to various military recruiters about future possibilities. You will also work with firemen and other Public Safety personnel who will give you insight into a career in their respective fields. There is always something planned while you are there, and you take part in activities that branch out from just police and legislative work. For example, in the second class, Criminal Justice Essentials, every student in the class took a CPR course and got heart-saver certified. The Public Safety pathway is a fun and enjoyable way to learn life lessons, team- building, and all kinds of things that can’t be put into words. What happens in Public Safety stays in Public Safety!
