The mission of the Agriculture class is to develop students’ potential, personal growth and success, and leadership. Ms. Shearer, Heritage’s Agriculture teacher, instills in students leadership capabilities that will help them to move forward through life with great success. For the people who love agriculture, there is FFA. This organization is very active and has many events. These include judging trees, flowers, animals, and designing flower arrangements.

Ms. Shearer’s favorite event is the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. She feels that “it enforces the ideology of FFA and provides the students with excellent life experiences. It is part of the reason why I decided to become an agriculture teacher.” This event takes place in October and is expecting over 60,000 people.

FFA is one of the largest organizations nationwide and has almost 630,000 members from over 7,700 chapters. The president of FFA at Heritage, Isabelle Hill, explains, “FFA helped me to find what I want to do with my life, some of my best friends, and what I enjoy doing with my time.” Hill is dedicated to the association and says she decided to become a student leader because she wants to help build the chapter and make it even better than it was when she first joined.

Even though FFA is about the knowledge of the world around us, students also make connections with the people that they meet through this organization. Josh Brock, a dedicated FFA member, says that he enjoys the agricultural side of FFA, but he also appreciates the people he gets to meet and the friends he gets to make. FFA is an organization that has it all. The plants, animals, competition, fun, and the people are all what make FFA one of the largest and most respected organizations in the school.
