On Wednesday, October 25, the Sound + Vision club (a club devoted to watching classic films like Roman Polanski’s “Chinatown” and Brian de Palma’s “Blow Out”) met after school to throw their own horror film festival. Having kicked off the month of October with Roman Polanski’s horror classic “Rosemary’s Baby;” they decided to continue the spookiness by watching the 1960 French film “Eyes Without A Face” and the 1977 Japanese film “House,” a movie that club sponsor Mr. Peace described as flat-out “bonkers.” Both of the films were released under the Criterion Collection banner, a company that restores and releases classic films (some obscure and some well-known) from all over the world and from throughout history.  They first watched “House.”  To the members, this was easily one of the most “out-there” movies they’ll probably ever watch in their existence. From the scene with an aunt dancing with a skeleton to floating fingers playing the piano, there is no doubt that this will be in their heads for quite some time. After the movie was over, they had a quick break for dinner. The dinner consisted of a large variety of drinks including Cherry Coke, Mountain Dew, and cran-apple juice; pizza from dominos; and an assortment of sweets including brownies and cookies. During this, many were shocked to see former member Silas Coker make a glorious return to reunite with his friends.  (He brought Jacked Doritos.) When all were done with dinner, the club began watching Georges Franju’s brilliant film “Eyes Without A Face” (or in France “Les Yeux Sans Visage”).  Many were anticipating the legendary surgery scene that ended up garnering the film a lot of controversy over in Europe back when it was first released.  Thankfully, some were happy that the film kept the gore to a minimal with only a little blood being shown. In the end, the Sound + Vision 2017 Horror Film Festival was one for the history books.
