I’ve never really been a person who just enjoys nature. Too often, I feel like all of us tend to ignore the smaller, everyday things around us and take them for granted because of the more pressing things in our lives that take over. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to have something that just takes me out of my typical mindset. While this probably seems like a weird way to react to being stressed, I decided to just go for it and buy a plant. It’s tiny and it’s very unlikely that even I could kill it, but it’s a plant nonetheless. I was just as surprised as anyone by how much I actually enjoyed even the concept alone. We all tend to get overly attached to our narrative. We are all creatures of habit, so if you can’t erase the systematic human nature, use it to your advantage. I added in a new habit of taking care of something. It may be a really bizarre solution to feeling stuck in one’s ways, but it’s still a solution. As someone who focuses on little things, I just continued to do so. I’m not entirely sure why having something like a plant to take care of is helpful, but it was for me. So, the only solid advice that I can really give is to just go buy a plant or do something else that is uncharacteristic of yourself if you’re feeling stuck.
