CAN’T ERASE THAT (FROM YOUR HEAD)
February 23, 2018
I love movies. I wouldn’t go as far as to call myself a movie buff, but I’m slowly building my way to that status by watching movies I’d probably never see by myself. One way I’m doing that is through the Sound + Vision Club in our school. We watch cool and interesting movies every other Wednesday. One such movie that we watched, a movie I could never forget even if I tried to, was David Lynch’s “Eraserhead.” Oh… Where do I even begin with this one? I suppose I should start by not telling you anything and asking you to view it yourself, preferably with friends. Watching this one alone is ill advised. Plus, it’s admittedly just more fun with people by your side. I’ve told so many of my friends about this movie already and plan on watching it with every one of them some day. I even showed it to my boyfriend who just gave me a golden reaction that I will most likely cherish forever.
Now that I’ve built it up, I’ll just tell you that “Eraserhead” is weird. It’s really, really weird. I wouldn’t say it’s life-changingly weird, but it’s honestly pretty up there. It’s shot entirely in black-and-white and immediately takes on an off-putting, disturbing tone from the first shot. It only builds from there. With strange characters, body horror, an ear-splitting sound design, and an ending that makes you want to just stare at a white wall for a few hours, this movie is intense. I wouldn’t say this movie is for everyone, but I still give it a full recommendation, especially if you’re into good or freaky films.
