I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so I know almost everything there is to know about the Wizarding World. The first trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” was released only a few days ago and fans, including myself, are already hyped to see the movie when it comes out in November. “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is the second installment in the Fantastic Beasts film series. It picks up right after the events of the first movie which premiered back in 2016. Here’s a recap of the first movie: Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) ends up in 1920s New York in search of a creature, but some of his creatures escape from his magical briefcase. He ends up on a journey to find them and meets some new friends. While on his search he runs into some trouble with the Magical Congress of the United States (MACUSA, for short). In the end, he is no longer just searching for magical beasts but is fighting an evil force instead: Gellert Grindelwald. This is what will lead us into the next movie. We don’t know much about the story of the second movie, but we do know that Grindelwald has escaped custody of MACUSA and is gathering followers to try and rule over all non-magical beings. Almost all of the major characters from the first movie will be returning. I’m super excited to see what is in store for the Fantastic Beasts film series. I love that J.K. Rowling just keeps diving deeper into the Wizarding World. She has given us so much to embrace the story: seven books, eight movies, amusement parks, a (sort of) prequel film series, a play, and more. I am most excited about the play: “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” So far, there are three different locations for the play. It premiered in London back in 2016 and performances are still continuing today. Previews of the play have only just happened at the Lyric Theater in New York with the premiere set for April 22, 2018. Plans have also been made for the play to be performed in Melbourne, Australia in 2019. I would love to be able to travel to NYC to see the play on Broadway. The Harry Potter franchise will live on forever and I can’t wait to see “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.”
