On August 23, Amazon Studios released the official trailer for the upcoming remake of Dario Argento’s 1977 horror classic, “Suspiria.” if there was one word to describe the trailer, it would be “exquisite.” Not since the first trailer for A24’s “Hereditary” has a trailer for a horror film, not even the trailers for “The Nun” or “Slenderman,” been something been so unnerving. The trailer does an effective job of building a suspense-filled atmosphere by immediately starting out with Chloe Grace Moretz’s character, in a paranoid state, talk to a psychologist of sorts. It then cuts to the dancers doing their thing with an intense close up of Susie Bannion, played by Dakota Johnson (“The Social Network,” “Black Mass”). The trailer also showcases Tilda Swinton and Mia Goth in their respective roles while a voice-over by Chloe Grace Moretz gets more disturbing  by the second. Then the trailer finally gives us a look at the weapon used in the murders at the academy. That’s where things start to get very disturbing, and this is the part I love the most about the trailer. We get brief glimpses of some demonic-like creatures with elongated claws and bodies drenched in what looks like blood. We also get some impressive staredowns between Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson. What also makes this trailer great is that it doesn’t give away too much and keeps the viewer guessing about what is happening. For example, no context is given when Mia Goth’s character discovers a room hidden behind one of the mirrors in the academy or when Dakota Johnson’s character is thrown against a different mirror by an invisible force. “Suspiria” is set to be released October 26 and is directed by Luca Guadagnino (“Call Me By Your Name”). It was nominated for Best Film at the 2018 Venice Film Festival.
