Respect is an aspect of life. In order to have respect towards other people, you have to have respect towards yourself. The definition of respect is, “A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elected by their abilities, qualities or achievements”.

Respect starts with yourself; you need respect for yourself in order to have respect for others. Respecting yourself starts with controlling the way you talk about yourself. If you talk bad about yourself and are down yourself, then you don’t have the self confidence you need. You need to define your own worth and your own values, be honest with yourself, and be honest with others. Having self respect is taking in your responsibility and accepting that you’ve done something.

Respect also goes for everyone else around you. It doesn’t have to be your friends or anyone you know. If you’re on the bus or in public, you need to be respectful about your surroundings. If you’re listening to music, make sure it’s at a volume to where it’s respectful enough for others not to hear it. If you’re around other people, make sure to give them space and don’t get in their bubble.

Also, you need to have respect for adults. If there are teachers that are in your life or if there are grandparents or senior citizens, you need respect for them. The teachers need to be called, “Mr, Mrs, Miss,” and things like that. They need to be called by their last name and no other name. If you call them by their first name, that is considered disrespect. The elders have done things that are unimaginable. They’ve raised a family, they’ve fought in wars, they’ve been there for anyone who needed them, and they guided people to go the right way in life.

Being respectful will get you far in life. Being respectful will make others have respect for you, and once you have respect from someone, there are a lot of things that could go on the right path. You could make a good impression on others that you don’t even know and people that you do know. You could set yourself up for success.
