When the new land being built in Disney Parks, Disneyland and Walt Disney World, was announced to be set in the “Star Wars” canon, enthusiasm from “Star Wars” and Disney fans alike was immense. In the years prior, Disney has released a steady stream of new information containing their plans for the new land called “Galaxy’s Edge.” Featured in the “Star Wars” canon novel, “Thrawn: Alliances” by Timothy Zahn. Galaxy’s Edge is remote outpost that is home to smugglers, cantinas, and more. Plans for Galaxy’s Edge include a one-of-a-kind hotel where guests will become a character in the “Star Wars” universe, a variety of dineries including a new cantina, and two new rides. The two new rides will come off the heels of new updates to the now classic ride “Star Tours;” a simulator ride where guests alongside C-3PO, can travel to various iconic locations including Mustafar and Hoth while on the run from villains from around the galaxy.

One of the rides that has garnered much attention recently, is “Star Wars: Rise of The Resistance.” Scott Trowbridge, a Creative Executive of Disney Imagineering, says “This attraction invites you to be recruited to the Resistance and stand up against the First Order. And you even come face-to-face with Kylo Ren. You make it through that, you get back to the planet, you’ll be a hero of the Resistance and be celebrated throughout the land.” It was reported since then from Alicia Stella, writer for the Disney and More blog, on her podcast that “Rise of The Resistance” has more than 300 animatronics and could last up to 28 minutes long. For reference, the longest attraction at Walt Disney World is the “Carousel of Progress;” a show in Tomorrowland that showcases the developments in technology from the early 1900s to the present, which runs for twenty minutes and forty-five seconds. If reports are accurate, then  “Rise of The Resistance” will claim the spot of longest ride at Disney World by 7 minutes and 15 seconds. As for DisneyLand, “Rise of The Resistance” will beat “Mark Twain’s Riverboat” runtime by six minutes.

Galaxy’s Edge is set to open in June in both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida. The land will also be featured in it’s own run of comic books from Marvel starting in April.
