The 20th of September: A Day That Will Live in Infamy
October 7, 2019
As you may or may not know, on the 20th of September, the area 51 raid was supposed to go down. But, only a few people showed up compared to the two million that jokingly signed up to go. People wanted to raid Area 51 due to the myth of supernatural life being there which thrilled many people.
Although this raid did become a meme and not actually meant for people to go. The meme was created by a boy on social media named Matty Roberts. He confirmed that the “raid” was purely for comedic purposes and not to actually send people to Area 51 all the way in Nevada. But that didn’t stop those few people from packing up and spending hundreds on plane tickets. On the day of the raid 150 people actually ended up coming to the military base. None actually got through the entrance, but five people were arrested for trespassing.
During all of this the government was most likely concerned about people going too far with the joke. The government had put out there that they suggest no one actually go because it’s dangerous to go on grounds where the U.S. Air Force has an open range. So, the moral of the story, don’t go to military bases to fulfill your commitment to a facebook event.
