Volleyball Ends Season with Overall Record of 28-15

The Lady Generals set the bar high for next season by working hard and playing well. The team was basically fresh with the new roster, but they powered through and played a wonderful season, ultimately making it to the Sweet Sixteen.

The Lady Generals ended their season this year with an overall record of 28-15. They started the season off with some big non-regional wins against local teams like LFO (2-0) and Ringgold (2-0). By the end of the season, the Generals held a regional record of 8-2. They pulled off some big wins against Pickens (2-0 both games), Ridgeland (2-0; 2-1), Cedartown (2-0 both games), and Southeast Whitfield (2-0 both games). The only team they lost to was their regional rival, Northwest Whitfield (0-2 both games). Nonetheless, the Lady Generals proceeded on to the State competition, where they beat Riverdale 3-0 in the first round to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The Sweet Sixteen was a battle between the Generals and Fayette County in a game that went on for 5 sets. Unfortunately the Generals lost, ending their season.

On this year’s team, there were several players who stood out to Coach Cooper and to the other players as exemplary athletes and team leaders. These players included Abbey Blevins, Georgia Taylor, Lexi Berry, Zandy Burton, and Zoe Ha. Lexi and Georgia were both freshmen who played on Varsity. One other player who stood out was senior Lauren Francis; she was selected All-State for volleyball and was invited to play in the senior All-Star game on November 13th.

Coach Cooper is very proud of the team this season because they played their hearts out, and trained really hard to get as far as they did. Coach Cooper likes to make sure that each of her players personally improve physically and mentally throughout the season. “I think that my favorite memory [from this season] is just the practices that we had where the girls would just play games or have fun, like a team-building practice,” she said.

Overall, this was another great season for the Lady Generals, and Heritage is so happy to be represented by this amazing bunch of Generals.
