The Fall 2022 HHS Color Guard worked extremely hard all throughout the fall marching season. The team came in with the marching band to begin working on performances for the fall season back in July. They spent so much of their time preparing for football games and competitions. Each of their practices depended on what the team needed: maybe one day they need to clean up a piece in their routine, or on another, they start working on a new routine. So many memories and special moments were made at football games, practices, and preparing for what comes next. “[The best part of practices was] at the end of the season. We do senior runs like the seniors do all songs in their past shows, and then the underclassmen run this year’s show by themselves,” senior Madison Lankford said. Soon after the football season slowed down, the team was on its way to the first competition. The team’s first stop was at Albertville High School in Albertville, AL. They swept the competition clean with a win, taking first place in their category. Sophomore Anderson Sasada said, ”The best part of everything was having fun with your friends.” A week later, the team went to Boaz High School in Boaz, AL, also claiming a victory in first place. “[One of the best moments of the season was] winning consecutively and the improvement the teams have made throughout the season,” Sophia Benavides, a Junior at Heritage, said.

The team’s final stop was a week later to perform at the last competition of the season at Cass High School in White, GA. Their winning streak continued; the next thing they knew, the 2022 Heritage Color Guard again won first place and was named the Grand Champion. This moment was a big step for the Color Guard. In past seasons, the team always came close to the top but with everyone putting in the work they did, they finally came out on top. Coach Taylor says, “The best part of the season was our last competition just because the competition across the board was more difficult, and [the guard] had a really clean run. I was so proud of them. The team did a great job this season. I think we pushed them a little harder in the work just to be able to take them to a more excellent level.”  The Color Guard team worked hard and did amazing throughout the season. With the help of Coach Taylor, the leadership, and the hardworking team, they made this season a memorable one. They will never forget this year.
