In 2022, Disney released the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series starring Ewan McGregor playing Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Hayden Christiansen playing Anakin Skywalker. Aside from the typical timeline of the “Star Wars” saga, this series is based ten years after episode three, “Revenge of The Sith,” but before episode four, “A New Hope.” This was also after Obi-Wan defeated Anakin on Mustafar, along with the birth of Luke and Leia Skywalker, the children of Anakin and Padmé.
The main plot of the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series is that Obi-Wan is a regular citizen on the planet of Tatooine; the once great Jedi Master seems to have attempted to forget his past. Kenobi can’t escape it, throughout the series Kenobi is constantly tormented by his past, specifically when he left Anakin on Mustafar to die. From this, he is constantly dealing with anxiety, which adds even more reason to why he would want to bury his past as a Jedi. In the series, we see a young Princess Leia who is being raised by her adoptive parents Bail and Breha Organa. Throughout the series, she has doubts about being on Obi-Wan’s side. Although, that is mainly because she has doubts about him truly being a Jedi, because he tries to hide it so much. The main villain in the series, Anakin, has already become Darth Vader, because of his transformation in “Revenge of the Sith.” Along with Vader, other villains include the inquisitors, who are sent by Vader in search of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the last remaining Jedi after the fall of the Jedi order.
In my opinion, this was a great series put together by Disney. This really gives fans an inside perspective of what it looked like right after the fall of the Jedi order, and the series gave fans much needed answers they were looking for. Most fans were left with the question of what Obi-Wan did after Order 66, and that’s exactly what we got in this series. We also got answers about how Obi-Wan became aware of Darth Vader’s existence leading into episode four, and how Luke and Leia were when they were younger before their work in the New Republic.
I would rate this series a nine out of ten, the only thing I would change is that I wish there was going to be a second season. It’s most likely not going to happen, because season one of the series gave a good ending that will most likely not be rewritten to carry on another plot line. This series is an exceptional example of what a series should have with a good plot, a story that directly relates to what it’s based upon, mystery, and a good story for the antagonist seeking revenge on Obi-Wan. This is very well written, and a well put together series by Disney, I would strongly recommend this series to any “Star Wars” fan.
