Heritage High School provides technology competitions to encourage students who are in CTAE (Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education) pathways, or students who aren’t in classes but do projects as a hobby, to compete against many other schools leading into state.
On January 30th, many Heritage students competed in the regional technology competition at Georgia Highlands College. The students who competed were the winners of the district competition. Their hard work and dedication into their regional project led many of them to win first place and qualify for the state wide competition.
The generals who won spent hours working on and perfecting their project to show to the judges. They planned out exactly what they were going to say and how to explain their ideas to the judges in the most effective and professional way. These students reported the competition being a somewhat stressful but overall rewarding experience. They all agreed that the feedback from the judges was good, constructive, and a helpful reference for future competitions.
“I was okay with everything. I wasn’t as nervous anymore; it all went really well. The judges were impressed with everything; that was a good thing,” said senior Jules Harbor.
Junior Wilton Dodson said, “I enjoyed explaining our project to the judges and how we [went] about doing everything.”
A few generals stated that they enjoyed being with people who were as passionate about their projects as they were.
“It was very enjoyable; there were a lot of like-minded people around us,” said Dodson
The following students are heading to the State Competition for their projects: sophomore Logan Courtney-Soper for Video Production, sophomore Luke Horn for Graphic Design, juniors Wilton Dodson and Chris Williams for 3D Modeling, seniors Elliott Afonshina and Ruah Moon for Graphic Design, and senior Jules Harbor for Digital Photo Production.
These students worked really hard and should be proud of what they have achieved and how far they have come. We are looking forward to seeing these generals at state and wish them the best of luck!
