Another DC movie is in the works, and the focus of this one will be Billy Baston, the boy who has the power to transform into an adult superhero by saying the word “Shazam.” Shazam is an acronym for “Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury,” which is how the character will fit into the Greek mythology-infused DCEU. David F. Sandberg (“Lights Out” and “Annabelle: Creation”) will be directing a screenplay written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Zachary Levi, who also plays Fandral in “Thor: Dark World” and “Thor: Ragnarok.” will be playing Captain Marvel. There’s still some casting to be done, like for Billy Baston and whoever the villain of the movie will be. In the comics, Shazam’s arch nemesis is Black Adam, who’s getting his own movie and will be played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The Rock was offered to play either the hero or Black Adam, but he chose Black Adam, saying, “I just felt Black Adam was inherently more interesting to me because I felt there were more layers to Black Adam starting out as a slave and then ultimately becoming the anti-hero whom we enjoy today.” Both “Shazam!” and the untitled Black Adam movie will build to a movie in which they’ll clash. The release date has not been confirmed yet, but while you’re waiting, you can see “Justice League” on November 17th or “Aquaman” in December of 2018.
