There’s been an increase in film adaptations of Stephen King books lately, and they’ve been doing well. “Dark Tower” made a surprisingly large amount of money despite the bad reviews it received, and “IT” was a huge success, pulling in over $123 million in one weekend. The newest adaptation in the works is a movie based on Stephen King and Peter Straub’s book “The Talisman.” There have been many attempts in Hollywood to make something out of it since the book was published in 1984. It’s finally here for sure now. Josh Boone, the director of “The Fault In Our Stars” and “New Mutants,” will be writing the script and could possibly be directing the movie as well. Boone was previously attached to write and direct an adaptation of another one of King’s books, “The Stand,” and when that fell through, he was recruited to “Revival,” which is still a work in progress. In addition to those two, many other Stephen King projects are on the way, such as “Castle Rock,” “IT: Part 2,” “The Dark Tower” TV series, “Doctor Sleep,” “Jaunt,” “Hearts in Atlantis,” and “Drunken Fireworks.” Steven Spielberg was the initial choice for director of “The Talisman,” and he had rights to either a miniseries or movie but eventually decided against it. The King and Straub collaboration follows 12 year old Jack Sawyer on his dimension-hopping quest to save his ill mother, and it is a highly praised fantasy book. No release date has been announced yet by Amblin Entertainment or Stephen King.
