Dr. Seuss is the ninth best selling and one of the most iconic writers of all time, so his work has been popular for quite some time, but it’s been getting a lot more attention lately. Some upcoming adaptations of the world of Dr. Seuss include “The Grinch,” a separate series of film adaptations, and the subject of this article, a biopic based on the life of Theodor Geisel a.k.a. Dr. Seuss. The famous author’s work can allow for decades more of adaptations, as he penned over sixty books. Stephen Chbosky, who directed “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower” and “Wonder,” will be in charge of the biopic project. The script for the movie was written by Jonathan Stewart and Eva Podell (“Cars 3”). The script follows Geisel in the 1920’s when he struggles as a writer,  it tells the story of meeting his future wife Helen Palmer and the sudden appearance of the illness that takes her life thirty years later. Hopefully Chbosky has the respect to show all aspects of his life, and that he shows it like it was and not like a children’s book. It’s unclear what direction the movie will go, but it will either result in disappointed adults who came to see a biopic, or children who came to see a children’s movie. Titling the movie might be tricky because a title with the name “Theodor Geisel” might not draw enough attention, and the name “Dr. Seuss” might attract the wrong attention. A good advertisement campaign might alleviate some of that confusion though. The biopic is obviously in very early development, because the important role of Dr. Seuss has not been filled, the release date has not been decided, and the title remains to be chosen.
