I have a lot of favorite music artists, but there is one band that stands out on my all time favorite list: Nirvana. I have always been a fan of alternative rock and when I discovered Nirvana, I was literally hooked. Sure they’re old school, but that can be what makes amazing music. One of my favorite albums is “Nevermind.” It was one of the best selling albums the band released in 1991. This album is filled with so much pop and punk that it could literally explode. With classics like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Lithium,” “Nevermind” is a truly remarkable album. And of course, I can’t forget “Come As You Are”— a song I remember listening to as a kid on long roadtrips. With Cobain’s vocals and Novoselic’s bass guitar, the song is a tune that will live on ages to come. Another favorite album of mine is “Bleach,” which was released in 1989. Nirvana’s debut album revealed to the world another dimension of music: Indie rock. While people were used to listening to pop/rock music such as Hall and Oates and Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana blessed their ears with a new genre. On “Bleach,” there is everything from new age, such as “Love Buzz,” to plain alternative, such as “About A Girl.” But it’s not just the sound of a Nirvana song that makes it admired, it is also the lyrical meanings behind all the songs. For example, “About A Girl” is an anti-love song that has so much emotion put in to it with lyrics, “I’m standing in your line. I do hope you have the time.” Nirvana is a band I’m sure you’ve heard of, but it is one you DEFINITELY have to listen to!
