Do you love horror movies based on true stories? Well, if so, “Winchester” is a movie for you. Known as the most haunted house in the world, the Winchester house sits on an isolated stretch of land that’s 50 miles outside of San Francisco. The movie dramatizes the life of Sarah Winchester: the heiress the Winchester fortune, which stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms, some leading to unfinished stairwells and staircases. Sarah, played by 2 time Golden Globe award winner Helen Mirren, keeps adding on to the house, because she is really making an asylum for many vengeful ghosts. According to producers, the film builds itself around the idea that “fear exists only in the mind”, meaning there are not many jump scares. Just like the legend of the real Winchester Mystery house, Sarah sees ghosts everywhere, but she isn’t afraid of them. She believes she can help them, since most of them died from the dastardly rifles that her late husband invented through his business Winchester Repeating Arms Co. By adding on to the house everyday, Sarah believes she will give the ghosts a place to come and heal, although some of her ghostly residents don’t cooperate; they have to be locked away, sealed into their room with 13 nails. Along with Helen Mirren,Jason Clarke (“The Great Gatsby”) stars as Doctor Eric Price and Sarah Snook (“The Dressmaker”) stars as Marion Marriott. “Winchester” is in theaters now, so don’t miss out on the scare!
